Taking Control of Your Mental Health a new guide published by Shine, was launched by Miriam O’Callaghan, RTE broadcaster and journalist.

Miriam O'Callaghan

This magazine style guide contains comment, opinion, research and personal reflections on the experience of mental ill health from people with self experience. It also gives an insight into the workings of a multi disciplinary mental health team from the professionals themselves.

Full colour reproductions of paintings by members of The Basin Club resource centre give the magazine a look that few publications of this kind can boast.

You can also follow the journey of a number of people through their own experiences expressed in a narrative story that run throughout the magazine.

In his introduction, John Saunders comments
"Everything in this guide is directed by the idea of mapping a recovery journey for people." You can download a copy of Taking Control of Your Mental Health by clicking on the link below. You can order hard copies by calling 01-8601620.

Service User Consultative Group

The Service User Consultative Group is a source of service-user expertise to the Council of Shine.  The group also strives to further the needs and issues of those with mental ill health that we represent.

The group was established in February 2004 in response to the lack of service users on Council and the growing demand for our input into the organisation. The group reports to the Council of Shine and we also discuss and bring to Council matters of importance.

If you think you might be interested in becoming a member of the consultative group please contact Mary Lambe at Shine, 38 Blessington Street, Dublin 7, tel. 01-8601620 or at: mlambe@shineonline.ie. All replies will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
